Appealingly simple, the Sunday Service includes hymns, Bible readings, silent prayer, and a Bible Lesson, which is read to the congregation as a "Lesson-Sermon." Each week's Bible Lesson is comprised of passages from the Bible and explanatory passages from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. The citations for the Bible Lesson are published in the Christian Science Quarterly and are studied throughout the prior week by students of Christian Science throughout the world. We have no ordained ministers; the Bible and Science and Health are our only "pastor." The Sunday School is a lively place where young people are taught the Bible and its practical applications, including how to pray effectively and to love and depend upon God as "a very present help" (Psalm 46:1). Students study the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, the Sermon on the Mount, and the Bible Lesson. They also learn to love the teachings of Christ Jesus and to explore prayer-based solutions to everyday problems. Very young children up to the age of 3 are lovingly cared for in our Nursery during the Sunday service. |
